The book tells you the most famous legends of Vienna and takes you in 5 walking tours to the legendary sites of the city.

In the legend: “Hans Puchsbaum’s Fate” you discover why Saint Stephan‘s Cathedral (Stephansdom) has only one high rising spire; the legend “The Toothache Lord” tells you the story of 3 mischievous lads who got their right and just punishment (see: Saint Stephen's Cathedral).

The chapter on the Austrian kings and queens tells you some legends told about Emperor Josef II and how they lived at the Schoenbrunn Palace (Schloss Schoenbrunn) and the Imperial Palace (Hofburg). In the legend “The Veil on the Elder Bush” you discover the foundation of the Monastery Klosterneuburg by the Babenberger Duke Leopold III (see: Schoenbrunn Palace).

When strolling through the old city you will meet on Fleischmarkt the happy ballad singer “Dear Augustin“, a few steps further on you find out how a baker saved the Viennese from being poisoned by an ugly beast, his legend is told in: “The Basilisk at the Bakery”. In the Stadtpark you cannot only admire the golden statue of the Waltz-king Johann Strauss, but also find a statue called “Donauweibchen”, its legend being told under the title “The Danube Mermaid”.
